For the fifth year running, Singapore has topped the World Bank Ease of Doing Business report. This is an index created by the World Bank and based on the study of laws and regulations, with the input and verification by more than 8,000 government officials, lawyers, business consultants, accountants and other professionals in 183 economies who routinely advise on or administer legal and regulatory requirements. Higher rankings indicate better, usually simpler, regulations for businesses and stronger protections of property rights.
The Doing Business 2011 ranks 183 countries on how their performance in 9 areas including starting a business. For 2010, Singapore’s rank under two indicators, Starting a Business and Closing a Business, held steady at the 4th and 2nd positions respectively.
